TOPIC: MEANING OF *"Poor In Spirit"*
Matthew 5:3 NIV
[3] “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
In the Bible, "poor in spirit" (Matthew 5:3) refers to recognizing one's spiritual poverty and dependence on God, rather than material wealth or self-sufficiency.
It means acknowledging a lack of spiritual resources and a deep need for God's grace and mercy.
This spiritual posture is characterized by humility, recognizing one's sinfulness, and a reliance on God for salvation and everything else.
*Not Material Poverty:*
While material poverty can sometimes coincide with spiritual poverty, the Bible is primarily concerned with the spiritual condition.
Being poor in spirit is a matter of the heart and a recognition of one's need for God.
*Receptivity to God's Grace:*
Only those who recognize their spiritual need can receive the blessings and grace that God offers.
*Humility:*
It is the opposite of pride and self-righteousness. Recognizing your spiritual poverty leads to humility and a desire to seek God's help.
*Dependence on God:*
It signifies a humble dependence on God's grace and mercy for everything. It's like a beggar relying on the generosity of others for survival.
*Spiritual Bankruptcy:*
Being poor in spirit means recognizing that you have nothing of spiritual value to offer God. You understand that your own efforts cannot earn God's favor or salvation.
_But the wonder of grace is this:_ God made him who knew no sin to be sin for us. That we might become the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21.
*WE ARE NOT ACCEPTED BECAUSE OF WHAT WE BRING, BUT BECAUSE OF WHAT CHRIST HAS ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED*
IT IS NOT "WHERE YOU MEET" THAT MATTERS, BUT THE PURPOSE OF THE MEETING.
The Church is NOT a BUILDING, but a group of PEOPLE on a mission to follow the JESUS WAY! hence "THE BODY OF CHRIST".
REMEMBER: Jesus and his disciples NEVER moulded blocks to build church buildings.
*THEY BUILT PEOPLE* Sometimes on the field (feeding the 5000), by the river or in a boat, and also using the existing temples.
*DO NOT BE DECEIVED BY ANTICHRIST BUILDINGS THEY CALL CHURCH THESE DAYS*
Sugar and salt look alike but CAN NEVER BE THE SAME. Sugar sweet pass salt, but you CANNOT use sugar to cook a pot of soup.
This means that not everything the devil gives you is good for you! The Bible says we are the "Salt of the earth".
It doesn't say "Sugar of the earth". *IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE EASY OR SWEET.* You have to carry your cross DAILY, Surrender DAILY, and die to self DAILY to follow JESUS.
