Tithes and Offerings shouldn't be demanded because they are in the Bible. They were actions meant to symbolise an inner attitude. The people must practice their faith seriously.
Reading from the book of Malachi 3: 6-12 we understand God wants us to return to him so that he can return to us. HE WANTS THAT INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH US. THAT CLOSENESS. He wants us to put him first in everything!
Verse 6 starts with "For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore you sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Verse 8 says "Will a man Rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, how have we robbed you ? In tithes and Offerings.
Verse 10 says … "Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive."
Remember Tithes and Offerings were originally Foodstuffs, crops and animals BUT can be changed to money if the location God directed you to in too far and carrying the items is difficult (Read Deuteronomy 14:22-29).
According to Deuteronomy, The tithes were meant for the less privilege, widows, orphans, etc. Also read Deuteronomy 26 (whole chapter)
OBEDIENCE is better than SACRIFICE, however God loves a cheerful giver!
