UNDERSTANDING SIN AND ITS CONSEQUENCES
Sin is not merely what hands do, but what the heart desires. *External actions are the fruit; the heart is the root. God judges both.*

The Bible does not treat sin as a social problem, psychological weakness, or cultural construct. Scripture presents sin as a spiritual condition that affects every human being and separates man from God.

*UNDERSTANDING SIN AND ITS CONSEQUENCES*

One Savior. Will it be Acceptance or Rejection?"

📖 Romans 6:23 — “For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”

*Sin Earns Death* — Spiritual separation from God. This is not merely physical death, but alienation from divine life.

➡️ Every sinner stands condemned apart from Christ. *TAKE NOTE:* CHRIST, not CHURCH ATTENDANCE. Religious practices and mindsets CANNOT SAVE YOU, ONLY JESUS SAVES!

*Isaiah 53:6* " All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."

This verse highlights the universal human tendency to sin (stray) and God's solution of placing the world's guilt on Jesus Christ.

*Universal Sin:* The imagery of "sheep" going astray describes humanity's, both Jews and Gentiles, tendency to wander away from God’s path and follow their own desires.

*Individual Rebellion:* "Everyone has turned to his own way" implies that sin is personal, willful, and diverse, with each person choosing their own path of disobedience.

*Substitutionary Atonement:* The Lord laid the "iniquity" (sin, guilt, and punishment) of all people upon the Servant (Jesus), who suffered in the place of sinners.

*Divine Grace:* The initiative to fix the broken relationship lies with God, who takes the burden of sin off humanity and places it on the substitute.

*John 3:16:* "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

*Romans 5:8* "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

*The Great Exchange:* "Our sin was laid ON Him, so that His righteousness could be IN us."

*Hope Restored:* "Where the world saw an ending, God provided a beginning. Jesus, the Hope of the World."

*Before salvation can be understood, sin must be understood.*

*Before grace can be appreciated, condemnation must be acknowledged.*

The Bible does not treat sin as a social problem, psychological weakness, or cultural construct. Scripture presents sin as a spiritual condition that affects every human being and separates man from God.

📖 Romans 3:23 — “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

*WHAT SIN IS NOT*

*1. Sin is not only outward actions*

Many believe sin exists only in visible behavior. Jesus corrected this misunderstanding by teaching that sin begins internally, in the heart.

📖 *Matthew 5:28* — Lust is adultery in the heart
📖 *Matthew 15:19* — Evil thoughts proceed from within

Sin is not merely what hands do, but what the heart desires. *External actions are the fruit; the heart is the root. God judges both.*

➡️ Therefore, avoiding outward acts does not remove inward guilt.

*2. Sin is not determined by human opinion*

Human standards shift. God’s standard does not.

📖 Proverbs 14:12 — “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man…”

Man often justifies behavior because it feels right, is socially accepted, or is culturally approved. *Scripture warns that sincerity does not equal truth.*

➡️ Sin is not defined by feelings, majority vote, or personal conviction — it is defined by God’s revealed will.

*3. Sin is not excused by good intentions*

Intentions do not override God’s moral law.

📖 Isaiah 5:20 — “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil…”

Good motives cannot sanctify sinful actions. *God never reclassifies sin because the heart “meant well.”*

➡️ Sin remains sin, regardless of motive.

*4. Sin is not limited to major crimes*

Many restrict sin to extreme acts, but Jesus broadened the scope.

📖 Matthew 5:27–28 — Lust equals adultery before God

God’s law reaches beyond courts and prisons. *It addresses thoughts, desires, and intentions.*

➡️ Sin includes internal rebellion, not just public wrongdoing.

*5. Sin is not removed by works or reform*

Self-improvement cannot cleanse sin.

📖 Jeremiah 2:22 — Sin remains even after outward washing

Moral reform may change behavior, but it cannot erase guilt. *Sin is a spiritual stain, not a behavioral habit.*

➡️ Sin requires divine forgiveness, not human effort.

*WHAT SIN IS*

*1. Sin is transgression of God’s law*

The Bible gives a direct definition.

📖 1 John 3:4 — “Sin is the transgression of the law.”

Sin is crossing the boundary God has set. *It is rebellion against divine authority.*

➡️ Sin is lawlessness toward God.

*2. Sin is unrighteousness*

📖 1 John 5:17 — “All unrighteousness is sin…”

Anything that falls short of God’s righteousness is sin. *Sin is not only doing wrong, but not being right before God.*

➡️ Sin includes attitudes, thoughts, and omissions.

*3. Sin includes knowing good and not doing it*

📖 James 4:17

Sin is not only committing evil, but refusing obedience when truth is known.

➡️ Silence, delay, and neglect can be sin.

*4. Sin includes anything not of faith*

📖 Romans 14:23

Faith is the principle by which God is honored. *Actions done apart from faith lack submission to God.*

➡️ Sin includes independence from God.

*5. Sin includes specific moral violations*

God names sins clearly.

📖 Exodus 20:14 · 1 Corinthians 6:18 — *sexual immorality*
📖 Exodus 20:3 — *idolatry*
📖 Colossians 3:9 — *lying*
📖 Exodus 20:17 — *covetousness*

God’s law is not vague. *He identifies behaviors that violate His holiness.*

➡️ Sin is defined, not assumed.

*THE GOSPEL: GOD’S ANSWER TO SIN*

God did not leave mankind under condemnation.

📖 1 Corinthians 15:1–4 (KJV)
Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day.

*Jesus took the penalty sin demanded.*

Salvation is not achieved by reform or works — it is received by believing in Christ’s finished work.

📖 Romans 6:23 — “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

➡️ Sin condemns — but Christ saves.

The Bible defines sin clearly so grace can be understood fully.
*Sin reveals man’s need; the cross reveals God’s solution.*

Only when sin is rightly defined can salvation be rightly received.
